Federico Morán

Director General of the madri+d Foundation

Federico Morán, born in Madrid, is currently the Director of the madri+d Foundation for Knowledge. A Full Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), he has served as Secretary General of Universities at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of the Government of Spain.

At UCM, he has been actively involved in teaching and research in Biophysics, Theoretical Biology, Systems Biology, and the Origin of Life.

Among his notable activities, he was a Founding Member and Senior Researcher at the Center for Astrobiology (CSIC-INTA), associated with the NASA Astrobiology Institute. He also served as Deputy Director of the Spanish National Institute of Bioinformatics.

On the international stage, he was a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University in California, where he maintained a long-term research collaboration on the dynamics of complex biochemical networks with Professor John Ross’s group in the Department of Chemistry.

He has authored several books, including a biophysics textbook, and published over one hundred scientific papers in ISI-indexed journals, as well as numerous lectures and conference presentations.
